BREAKING NEWS:  Amazon.com has now rated CHASING GOLD as:

(a)  The #1 Most Gifted Sports Coaching Book on their world wide website

(b) The  #1'Most Gifted' book in 21st Century History

Florence Auld.  Washington DC. USA

Hi Max.  I am sitting here with tears in my eyes reading about what individuals can accomplish even when faced with such hardships I just have to thank you.  It is so inspirational and brilliantly written. I love the QR code idea.

Boys in the Boat (p.18) has always been one of the most inspiring stories.  I’ve read the book; seen the movie and when you wrote about it I couldn’t help but marvel once again about the fortitude of Joe Rantz.

I was moved by so many of your stories in Chasing Gold.  But the Jessica Sloan story (p.139) being born without a left hand and then had her legs amputated at 18 months old faced so many setbacks at such a young age. She must have listened to W Mitchell (whom you mention on p.13) when he said  “It’s not what happens to you in life it’s what you do about it.”

CHASING GOLD is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. Because, of this I have chosen to order 30 copies as gifts and presents for my colleagues, family and friends.  Thank you for sharing your book with me and the world!

CHASING GOLD  will be a handy reference for coaches and sports men and women for many years ahead. The book is so unique with a story and a video message each time you turn a page.  And I have never seen a QR code on the cover of a book inviting you to 'meet the author'.  It is a delightful book spotlighting Olympians throughout the decades.  There is so much to reflect on and absorb.  Well done Max.

Hello Max.   My friend, Florence Auld, gave me your book Chasing Gold.  I wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed it!

As a former athlete, who came up in the Pre-Title IX era in the States, I am personally sooooooo aware of the grit required to succeed in athletics. I have always been grateful for the determination that athletics nurtured.  I loved reading about other, far more accomplished athletes and their quest for excellence.

Your tone is easy and generous, with a dash of good humor and lots of compassion.  And, I got a kick out of the QR codes and being able to learn more.  What a variety of videos you included!   Thank you for writing this book!  It has been a joy to read!

David Rosenberg - Wilmington, Delaware. USA

Dear Mr. Hitchins. I just had to drop you a note to tell you how much I'm enjoying "Chasing Gold".

I've never read a book quite like this! Being able to use the QR codes adds so much color, vibrancy, and realism to each of the sections! They bring the messages to life as only these accompanying videos could do!

So far, I've especially enjoyed the sections on The Boys in the Boat and the 1936 Olympics, and the great interviews with Muhammad Ali!

And the video of Sarah Brightman and Jose Carreras singing "Friends for Life" sent chills up my spine and brought tears to my eyes! Their performance was moving! No words could describe it; you had to watch it to really understand its beauty!

I wonder if you may have created the future of books with the use of these QR Codes?

I've never been a big fan of sports books, but this one really has me hooked!   Thank you Mr. Hitchins.

Wow Max! If I could speak Latin I’d say it’s a “Magnum Opus” ...but as I can’t...I’ll just have to say bloody brilliant. Great stories with the QR code support is just sensational. What a brilliant authoring effort! Just fantastic!

Max...Your book “Chasing Gold” is simply sensational. Every story is so interesting and made so much more special by the introduction of the QR scan. What a brilliant idea Max. There are so many stories I love and could write about. However, like you, we’ve had grandchildren very involved in rowing so I loved “The Boys In The Boat” story on page 18. The original footage shown in the QR scan was wonderful, yet distressing at the same time, as it evoked memories of a shocking time in our world history and much of that had been omitted from the movie. So, thank you for such detail. Also, one of our granddaughter’s has a partner who won a scholarship to Washington State University as a rower, so it was all very exciting and relevant for our family.

I’d like to also make mention of the Cathy Freeman story on page 179. What an inspirational and resilient athlete she was. The awesome QR footage allowed me to relive that night as I was in the stadium for her race. It was spine tingling. I’ve never been to a live event where the roar of the crowd was so deafening.

Max, I’ve enjoyed all your books and your easy, informative, interesting way of writing but for me “Chasing Gold” takes the cake. I love it. Huge thanks for writing this. I know your research stage was enormous but I believe so well worth it - certainly for the reader.

Hi Max.  This has to be THE BEST sporting story book of all time: and you can read it over and over because of the immediacy of each story brought to life by the QR Code. What genius!!

I have never thought of couples dancing on ice to be a true sporting event, but I will never forget that mesmerising performance of Torvill and Dean at Sarajevo in 1984. To be able to watch it whenever I want because of the attention to detail brought into this book; to relive it; and to show and share with grandchildren is a true privilege. And it was a true sporting event.

And what about, among many other stories, the recording of the incredible sportsmanship of the great John Landy in 1956 stopping to help a fallen Ron Clarke to his feet but still going on to win the race. Thank you, Max, thank you for bringing all these stories back to life. I trust this book will receive all the success it deserves.

Hi Max.   Sure is a wonderful book. So engrossing.  My cousin Jerome Varney dropped in and I showed him your book. He too was blown away with the concept and content. So, I ordered one for him.  Wish you continued success with ‘ Chasing Gold’.

When I started my first business almost 30 years ago, I was very lucky to have Max Hitchins as one of my first clients. Over that time, I've been constantly blown away by his innovative ideas.

In his latest book, "Chasing Gold" (published with impeccable timing in an Olympics year!), you can see that creative mind in action again. Not only does the front cover have a QR code - linking to a message from the author - but every story in the book also has an accompanying QR code.

Thanks Max...for your fantastic collection of Olympic stories. Also a bg congratulations on your inclusion of QR codes to let readers watch the film clips of these Olympic stars. No doubt you have set the bar for future hardcopy books with publishers all around the world saying "I can't believe we didn't think of this idea!"
